Business Model of Blogging as a Career

Blogging as a Career explains how to start, create, and manage a professional blog; it also shows you a way to expand your Internet business using niche websites. It is a business model used by many professional bloggers on the Internet. Blogging as a Career is a long-term business model. (Definitely not a make-money-quick scheme) If you are looking to start your Internet business with blogging, Blogging as a Career can be a valuable resource for you.

Three Major Components of Blogging

Before we go into details explaining things in the virtual world (Internet), let's think locally first.

One day, you realize that you don't want to be an employee for the rest of your life. You want to take complete control of your career, be your own boss, and start a business. You perform a self-evaluation and ask yourself three questions. What would be the first three major questions that come across your mind?

  • "What kind of products or services am I going to sell?"
  • "Where am I going to run my business?
  • "Who do I sell to and how do I promote my products or services to them?"

That's what I would ask myself.

So, since you are passionate and know a lot about computers, you have decided to run a retail computer store business in a mall. Computer magazines and street advertisements are what you have decided to use to promote your business.

Blogging is very similar to running a retail computer store. Before you even start, you have to ask yourself these three questions:

  • "What am I going to write about?"
  • "What platform do I use for my blog?"
  • "How do I tell the world about my blog?"

The three simple questions above cover the three fundamental components of blogging. In order to be a professional blogger and manage a successful blog, you need to:

  • Know how to produce authentic and quality content
  • Know how to build a professional blog
  • Know how to market your blog by leveraging web technologies

These three components are very important and interconnected; you cannot ignore any of the three and you cannot do a half ass job on any of them and expect to be successful.

Can you be successful just by producing quality content?

No. If your blog looks crappy, no one will even consider start reading on your blog. Or if you do a poor job on marketing, no one will even know about your existence.

Can you be successful just by creating a professional blog?

No. Your readers may be attracted to the design of your blog at first, but as soon as they start reading, they will leave because you've done a poor job in writing.

Let's say you are a professional Internet marketer and you can bring thousands of visitors to your blog every day. If your blog is poorly designed or if the content is poorly written, you will not be able to retain your visitors, period.

Let's think locally again. It doesn't matter if you have superior products to sell, if your storefront looks crappy, no one will be interested to go inside your store at the first place. And vice versa, if you have attractive storefront but poor quality products, you might attract visitors to go inside your store but they will, most likely, never turn into your customers.

Quality Content, Professional Blog, and Internet Marketing

  • Internet marketing is what will bring in visitors to your blog.
  • A professional designed blog is the key factor that determines if your visitors will decide to stay and start reading.
  • Quality content is what will convert your visitors into your readers and increase your readership.

Even though the three components (quality content, professional blog, and Internet marketing) are all very important and interconnected to each other, the importance of each component changes depending on which stage you are on.

Starting stage

When you are just starting your blogging career, assuming you already know what topics you will be blogging on, getting a blog designed and setup professionally from the start should be your primary focus. Once when you have a professionally designed blog ready, then it's time to begin adding quality content to it.

It's pretty much like starting a business in a mall where you have to make sure that your store is decorated properly. Once when your store is ready then you can start putting your products on the shelves, ready to sell.

Growing stage

After the grand opening of your professionally designed blog, there is no need to do extensive Internet marketing yet because you don't have much to offer just yet. So at this stage it is essential to be consistent on producing authentic and quality content to your blog. After few months of consistent work and effort, when you look back you will be amazed by what you've done.

Expanding stage

Now that you have a professional blog with a lot of quality content to offer, it's time to focus on Internet marketing and tell the world about the existence of such great blog.

What you will also find at this stage is that you are a lot more comfortable and efficient in producing quality content. It might only take you 30 minutes to come up with a great article now compared to before when it used to take you an hour or two to produce such article.

Because you have become a professional writer from your previous time and effort invested into writing quality content, you have effectively created (or opened) time for yourself to market your blog.

Are you ready to take your blog to the next level?
