Dont let Computer be a Burden to your Business

Is your PC Password Protected?

It is essential to password protect your operating system. Therefore, you have to make sure ALL accounts are password protected. But that is not enough because others can still gain access to your data by running external operating system on your computer. It is possible, and very easy, to run another operating system from a CD or a flash device. Therefore, you have to make sure that your system has start up password before loading into your operating system. Also, adding a password to your hard drive is also important just in case if someone tries to obtain the data on your hard drive by taking it out and installing it onto another machine. System start up password and hard drive password can both be configured in the BIOS of your computer. When choosing a password, use a combination of characters (both upper and lower case), numbers, and special characters. (e.g. P@s$W0rd)

Are you using your Computer properly?

Do you have Anti-Virus software installed? If not get one now! However, Anti-Virus software does not guarantee that your system won't be infected with viruses. This is the common misconception that most people have. You, as the user of the computer, are the key to the well being of your computer. A computer with expensive Anti-Virus software installed can still get infected with viruses IF you allow viruses to come in! A good thing to remember is: "Never click YES or OK to any unknown prompts or windows."This is the main reason how people are getting viruses or spyware on their computers.

Is your Operating System and Software up-to-date?

Every software on your computer needs to be constantly updated. Why? Because the updates fix the bugs in the software that could make your computer vulnerable to hackers, viruses, or spyware. Your operating system is especially important to keep up-to-date.

Are you keeping a backup of your files?

Performing backups of your files daily, weekly, monthly, or annually is essential for your business. These backups, on tapes, discs, or external hard drives, should be safely and securely stored. It is also good to have more than just 1 backup. The better your backup system is, the more protected you are against data loss due to system crash, theft, or environmental hazards such as fire.

Do you depend on your desktop, or laptop?

If you run a business, you need to have a backup plan if your computer is no longer available. Having more than one computer for business use is helpful and can help reducing your business down time if emergencies arise.
